It's the Little Things...

The lure of new packaging.

Nestling the treats for a journey and tucking them in just so.

Row upon row of empty shell begging for filling.

And then obliging the little buggers and lining them up for a joy ride.

It's the little things in a baking day that make me giddy. It's wonderful to be back.

And here' something I've never done before...a contest of sorts. I need to do some research and that research requires a package to be shipped to someone out there who will report back to me when they receive it. The contents of the package? Parisian macaron. Why do I need you to report back? Because I'm making them in the larger size and I'm playing around with shipping materials. I'm not sure how they will survive on a bumpy trek across country. You will tell me how they fared. And then, of course, you get to eat them.

So the first five people to comment are the lucky ...winners? Guinea pigs? Friends of pastry?

Those of you who make the top five, email me your vitals at gesineconfectionary@gmail.com.

I know I'm too late. However, I can't wait to try them via the website. I'm headed to VT this summer, on my last trip up I stopped in at your bakery. The lemon cheesecake was awesome, I still think about it!

Bobbi said...

I ordered and paid for macroons yesterday....but I'll still report on the shipping! P.S... making golden eggs for Easter (my first time)

Strange why the email isn't working for some. I've gotten a few vitals so it's working in a few cases. keep trying!!!

And sadly, Sarah, I don't ship to Canada. So sorry.

And Bobbi, you're getting the rustic and they live up to their name shipping wise. The Parisians, well, we'll see!

I'm clearly not in the Top 5 but wanted to try just in case. I live in Denver, Colorado. Regardless, I wish you all the best. I love reading your blog and living vicariously through your baking adventures.

well, shoot, I'm too late. I'd have been the perfect place, too! - I'm 2 hours from the Mexican border-- in San Angelo Texas, no interstate, barely any planes flying in...everyone has to drive somewhere else to fly somewhere else. If you want to try fairly remote west/central Texas (3 1/2 hrs NW of Austin) I'm in! -- njo

Maybe you should also test the various shipping methods/carriers, like 2nd day air. Or compare the handling between USPS and UPS. You know, to cover all your bases. ;)

Wow--fun contest. Wasn't quick enough today, but I did win your autographed book in the Tastebook contest. It was a fun surprise to get a package in the mail that I wasn't expecting--it was a fun read. Looking forward to your next book!

I know I didn't make the top five, but since I placed my order yesterday, I'll gladly report back to you how they fared through shipping. Contest or no contest -- I'm volunteering!

Ann-Marie said...

oh no, I'm too late. But if they can survive the roads in New Orleans they can survive anywhere. I've gone through 5 tires in two years. Great contest!

Oh, if you ever start shipping to Europe I'll definitely be a guinea pig. Can I ask, I would like to order some in future for gifts for friends in the US. Just hoping you take UK credit cards? Cheers, Jo.

CaveWoman said...

OMG! They look sooo good.I would love to devour them. I live in PA, not so far but perfect for your trial. I mean if they can't srvive this far... Not that they would survive much past the front door lol. I love your recipes and will soon have enough money to buy your book he library gets tired of me I think :-) Other people want to borrow it too.

rainey said...

That toile tissue is to die for!!!

Bet the macarons are pretty damned nifty too. ;>

Bonne chance with your new enterprise.

Wonderword said...

I wonder how long it will take it to send them to Bavaria. Lately I sent some Kinder Überraschungseier to friends in Sunset Beach and after six weeks they still have not arrived. Maybe because US customs do not allow them to be brought into the country? (no joke)
Anyway...I guess you baked goods will be hard like little stones when they´d arrive in good old Germany *sigh*.

Count me in please. Long time macaroon on-line buyer and comment poster from Orange County California who has been impatiently waiting for the day I could order again.

Hi Gesine,

If this helps your research, I ordered a mixed order of macaroons on March 31st, and they arrived in Austin today, Tuesday, April 6th! I just did it via the regular shipping.

They're Wonderful!

Oh - one more thing. I loved the owl on the envelope! Just curious - have you ever read "Wesley the Owl?" by Stacey O'Brien? A really touching story.

me! said...

it's Jodi, Sara Schneider, Lynda, PastryCHIC and Capri. If you haven't already sent me your addresses, please do! if you have, it doesn't hurt to send again!

I'm sending 2 different kinds of packaging. I'll post a before shipping and you can tell me what happens in the "after."

Thanks for the feedback on the rustics everyone! I've been shipping those puppies for years and they are the real shipping trooper. We'll just have to see about those Parisians, though.

YUM! the lemon macaroons arrived yesterday and are perhaps more delicious than I remember? :-) Love the packaging, so elegant & chic - oh, yeah, love the t-shirt also! Happy Spring!!

Michelle Shopped said...

dang too late for me! i had finally tried french macarons for the first time from an artisan providence baker (who is usually very good), but wasn't impressed -- hope to try yours someday...let me know when you need a right hand woman to help out so i can move back to vermont...the one thing i've learned about baking, much as i love it? leave the entrepreneurship (and biz in general) to someone else and just enjoy the baking life...

I know I am days or weeks late but if you still need a pig I am here for you hahaha. I live in Laredo, TX way way south.

PS: Your gourmet desserts just look fabulous!!

Oh I just love the beautiful sweet treats you make and I just found your blog... if I am too late to be on the helpers list so sad, but if you need another tester I am here for you in NYC's East Village...

I would be so honored to receive a package full of wonderful treats! What is exciting, is the process of opening up a beautiful gift. First it's the box with either the wrapping or just the ribbon, sometimes both. The on to the tissue... carefully pulling each piece as not to disturb it's contents. Then finally with great anticipation.... the treats...each one perfect! It's all about the journey and of course...the wonderful treats!

Lucy Pevensie said...

Oh - I sure WISH I could eat these things again. I am SO SAD! Yummm is all I can say!

Bummer - sent a mixed batch of macaroons to my mom as a surprise - she ate two and loved them, left the package for a few minutes, came back and they were gone. She found the empty wrapper in her backyard - who knew little daschunds could eat so much? (I never liked that kind of dog!)
