A Happy Anniversary

We've been married eleven years, Ray and I. And as he's in Chicago working, I came for the weekend to celebrate our steel anniversary, enjoy glorious Easter weather and share a few great feasts.

Speaking of steel, on a walk through Millenium Park we spied what has to be the best graffiti in the history of tagging lavished upon a crumbling girder. The kid who breaks the law for the love of her/his grandma is one adorable vandal.

And speaking of adorable, I found it hard not to purchase this HenBag.

And speaking of hens, we ate a splendiforous and eggtastic meal at Yolk.

And speaking of meals, we ate the equivalent of 3 repasts in one sitting. Eggs benedict, bananas foster crepes and corn beef hash. All washed down with piping hot coffee.

And speaking of coffee, there's no trip to Chicago without stopping by Intelligentsia for a cappuccino pulled and poured by fabulous coffee artisans.

And speaking of artisanal, we ate our fill of Chicago's finest beef dogs and washed it all down with some Weiss Bier at Portillos.

And speaking of weiss, we shared a lovely bottle of white Burgundy with a schmorgasbord of culinary delights at the Purple Pig.

And speaking of sharing, if I survive this trip without suffering a pork fat induced infarction, I hope to share many more anniversary meals with my lovely Raymo.

Steel Anniversary seems an appropriate one for a baker. Is it stainless?!? Glad you had a great one.

Wow, I just lingered and stared at the pics of the meal(s)you ate at Yolk and the work-of-art latte you imbibed at Intelligentsia...I could almost taste them! :) Isn't Chicago awesome?! One of my fave cities.
Happy Anniversary and I hope you have many, many more....

You know, I think you're wrong about that graffiti pic. I think the tagging was "I love you", SIGNED by Grandma. I like to think some sweet old dear is out spreading some old-fashioned, Ben-Gay-and-rosewater-scented love on the mean streets!

Happy Anniversary to G'n'R!

That bag was given to all the audience members during Martha Stewart's show on keeping chickens. It was on Friday but might have been a repeat. There may be unwanted ones on eBay.

Nice to hear that you enjoyed your anniversary jaunt - many happy returns!

Happy Happy Anniversary! Thanks for sharing.
And if you like pork fat, there's a place in Portland, ME called Duckfat (yes, they actually fry in duck fat). Delicious fries (accompanied with truffle ketchup or duck gravy), creamy shakes, and even beignets. I feel bad for the ducks, but soo good!

Gesine. Intelligentsia was just reviewed this past Sunday as the best place to have coffee. How would you rate it? Hope you had a wonderful time in my hometown (well I'm in the burbs)

Macaroons arrived today. I ate an obscene amount of them already. LOVE.

That chicken bag haunts me. There's a store in Grand Central in NYC that sells it. I giggle everytime I see it!

Happy 11th Anniversary and many many more. I just started reading your book and found this blog and became a member. I love your outlook on Hollywood and life in Vermont. My family and I love Vermont, and haven't been to Montpelier, but I will definitely make a stop now to your bakery!!
I cannot wait to try some of your recipes, so far the "Golden Egg" is on the must bake!!

Happy 11th! The first 11 are the hardest. Just keep laughing AT and WITH each other. I'm spending my 27th in Chicago later this year. Hallmark doesn't have a designated gift for it. WTF!

We LOVE Chicago! What more could you ask for...C-Cubs, C-White Sox, excellent food = Heaven. Can you tell we're baseball fans?

How AMAZING is Yolk?!?! I just ate there when I was in Chicago last week...the blueberry oatmeal pancakes (I think that is what they are called--totally got the "speciality" pancake with my meal) were so worth the sugar and carbs. Yum!

This is the first time I have come across this site. Beautiful.

I had to laugh at the hen bag as it was on the show Hoarders last night (that among a swamp of other items of great multitude).

I am a baker as well and love to see beautiful goodies that others enjoy! I look forward to following..

Happy Anniversary and many more..

There's no pork on earth that can hold a candle to Midwestern pork.

I had close to the exact same day that weekend. Breakfast at Yolk, midafternoon snack and wine at the Purple Pig and we added Mojito's at Havana (half price pitcher, who can pass that up??) and a nightcap at The Publican (amazing beer list and another pigtastic Chicago restaurant). Should you come back to Chicago - I highly recommend their Sunday brunch - maple glazed pork belly :)
I enjoyed your book - being one of those people who reads cookbooks cover to cover and daydreams about what I will cook next.
